Pinot Rosé 2015

Pinot Noir grapes were handpicked in April from a single vineyard on the banks of Lake Dunstan in Lowburn outside Cromwell. A blend of Pinot Noir clones “5” and “Abel” make up the Pinot Rosé. The grapes were destemmed and left in contact with their skins for 24 hours. The result is a vibrant salmon pink which was then fermented cool in stainless steel to retain fullness of berry and fruit aromas. Mount Michael Rosé is now keenly sought after as an outstanding lunch
or early evening wine with spring and summer foods, salads, seafood and a wide range of meat selections, especially chicken and duck. It has attracted a semi-cult following such is the demand. Drink now or cellar for up to 24 months.

Pinot Gris 2015

This wine was produced from a single vineyard in Lowburn on the banks
of Lake Dunstan Central Otago and handpicked in April 2015. The palate has a lovely core of Central Otago fruit seamlessly melding with a lovely balance of acids and sweetness allowing it to flow smoothly into a long lingering finish. 50% of the Pinot Gris was whole bunch pressed to extract only free run juice which was then fermented in stainless steel tanks. This portion contributes to the delicate and pure aromatics in the wine. The balance was foot stomped for a small % maceration. It was also pressed
and fermented in older oak barrels contributing viscosity and texture to the wine. Collectively the process results in a wine providing a richness of palate and beautifully rounded and soft finish.

Estate Pinot Noir 2014

A powerful wine, packed with deep voluptuous dark berries and mushroom with slightly savoury back palette. Supple and smooth with an elegant concentration of flavours, length and line. The grapes for this wine were hand picked from a single vineyard at Lowburn on the banks of Lake Dunstan in Central Otago. Fermentation was very traditional – open topped tanks, hand plunged, indigenous yeasts and a portion of whole bunch included in each fermenter. A month on skins for tannin development prior to gentle pressing, combined with maturation in French oak barriques (50% new) for 12 months before minimal filtration and fining has resulted in a beautifully balanced and elegant wine. This wine is ready to drink now with decanting if given time to breathe. You will be rewarded with time and patience.

Reserve Pinot Noir "Bessies Block"

Bessie’s Block Reserve Pinot Noir is our Premium reserve wine and is named after the original and most loved “employee”, Bessie. A Fox terrier and rabbit hunter of legend, she was vineyard “supervisor” for many years. Fermentation was very traditional – hand plunged and a portion of whole bunch included in each fermenter. With maturation in French oak barriques (50% new) before minimal filtration and fining has resulted in a beautifully balanced and elegant wine. The wine is made to be “put down“ for 12-18 months and will cellar beautifully for 5-7 years. Time is its “friend”. If you cannot resist it now please decant for 1 hour before drinking .
