Akarua Wine

Akarua was first established in 1996 by ex-mayor of Dunedin Sir Clifford Skeggs, with the business now run by his son David Skeggs.

The name Akarua translates as two vines in Maori, as the home vineyard was originally planted in Pinot Noir & Chardonnay.
The Alpine Daisy which features on our label, is the brand icon and is intrinsically linked to the heritage of the brand – it represents what we strive for; creating wines that are delicate, with beauty and of exceptional quality from an environment of extreme and sometimes harsh living conditions.

Akarua is the largest family owned vineyard in Central Otago – with 100 hectares spread across three estates. The majority of the vineyards are located in the prestigious Bannockburn sub-region, which is widely regarded as the “Grand Cru” site of Central Otago.

Award-winning Pinot Noir and Methode Traditionalle wines are Akarua’s signature styles.
