New Zealand Food Safety/ Haumaru Kai is a business unit within the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the lead government agency for the food and fibre sector in New Zealand. Our services traverse the whole chain of food and fibre production, helping to grow New Zealand’s economy, improve our environment and protect the sector.
We manage six regulatory systems covering agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food safety, biosecurity and animal welfare. Our people play a key role in providing advice and ensuring compliance with regulations, working in a range of environments – from airports and beaches to laboratories, abattoirs and fishing vessels.
