High Country Salmon is a boutique, 100% New Zealand family owned salmon farm, situated 3km south of Twizel in the Mackenzie Distict. We grow glacial mountain salmon (chinook or king salmon) in the hydro canal system – this constant flow of clean water means that our salmon are fitter than sea-run salmon, resulting in firmer flesh and a cleaner, more delicate flavour. We do everything on-site, resulting in the shortest supply chain possible and the freshest salmon available.
We are the smallest commercial salmon farm in New Zealand, and the only one that is 100% NZ family owned. The business started in December 2000 by Richard and Margaret Logan. Richard was a pioneer of freshwater salmon farming and his focus was on the salmon and raising them, while Margaret put all her energy into creating a small floating shop to sell the salmon from. Today we sell up to 220 tonne of salmon a year - solely to New Zealand businesses, residents and visitors to our salmon shop.
