The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is the government agency responsible for making sure that food in New Zealand is safe. A new food safety law - called the Food Act 2014 - came into effect in 2016. If you make or sell food as part of your business, you need to know how the new law applies to you. MPI can help you find out what changes you need to make and when.
MPI leads New Zealand's food safety system, protecting the health and wellbeing of consumers both here and overseas. We help protect the reputation of our food products and businesses, and set and monitor food standards.
We help businesses and consumers to understand their role in the food safety system.
