Sally Johnston from Ministry for Primary Industries

Sally Johnston is Food & Beverage Manager at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). She leads implementation of the Food Act 2014 – the first change to New Zealand’s food safety law since the 80s.

Following five years as a microbiologist with Fonterra, Sally joined the Dairy team at the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (now MPI) in late 2002. Since then she has moved around the organisation working in teams covering processed food and retail sale, compliance and investigation, and science and risk assessment.

Sally has a BSc (Microbiology & Genetics), a MSc (Microbiology) and a Masters in Dairy Science and Technology.
