NZChefs is the national association representing professional chefs, cooks, trainees, patissiers, and confectioners. The organisation provides opportunities for members to gain education, training, professional development, and to showcase their creativity and skills in the public arena.
 

The Great NZChefs Culinary Challenge

The NZChefs Cooking Arena at Fine Food New Zealand will be the venue for the wide range of cooking competitions and demonstrations, including the Great NZChefs Culinary Challenge. In this prestigious competition, up-and-coming chefs will compete head-to-head to cook top-quality dishes against the clock – and visitors will have opportunities to purchase and consume the delicious results. The competition runs daily in three time slots from 11:00am onwards and includes the following:

  • Curry Creations: Two-person teams making 20 portions of chicken curry with rice and accompaniments.
  • Mystery Box – Innovation: Two-person teams making 20 portions based on mystery ingredients.
  • Magic Wok: Two-person teams making 20 portions of an oriental- inspired dish.
  • Butcher and the Chef: Two-person teams making 24 chicken or pork sausages, along with a sauce/pickle accompaniment.
  • Celebration Cake Live Mystery Box: Two-person teams making tiered cakes with a celebration theme.
  • Debone a Chicken: Individual event where contestants show off their knife skills in a race against the clock.


The Great Pavlova Challenge – Battle of the Tasman*

A tag team duo competition held every day of the show from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Initial heats will determine which regional winners will compete in the final against a team from Australia to battle it out for the Tasman Title.
 

Culinary demonstrations*

Expert chefs present a series of fascinating demos from 10:00am onwards during every day of the show. Topics include: molecular gastronomy, butchery, pastry, margarine, tasting, vegetarian, and raw foods.

Culinary Olympics team ‘cold table’ demonstration

For the first time since 1988, New Zealand is sending a team to the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany in October 2016. In preparation for this significant international competition, the NZChefs team will assemble an exquisite ‘cold table’ presentation throughout the course of the show.

Come along and observe seven of New Zealand’s top chefs in action.
