Check out the red-hot culinary competition between some of the
world's top chef teams during the New Zealand International
Culinary Challenge. It'll be held at Fine Food New Zealand 2012,
organised by the New Zealand Chefs Association and sponsored by
Fonterra.
Teams of chefs under 25 years old from Australia, Singapore, and
New Zealand will go head-to-head on days one and two of the event
to win the Gourmet Pacific Challenge. Then, on day three we bring
out the Big Guns - three teams of senior chefs from Australia,
Singapore, and New Zealand vying to win the Battle of the
Tasman.
"These guys are right at the top of their game - they can stand
toe-to-toe with anyone worldwide," says New Zealand Chefs
Association Vice-President Gary Miller.
"The Kiwi team has just won six gold medals back-to-back and
they're keen to add another gold to their trophy cabinet. But the
Singapore team are the current world champions so it's bound to be
very close."
The senior chefs will have five hours to prepare and cook 70
covers of a four-course meal from scratch, followed by two hours of
service. The results will then be judged by an international panel
of experts from Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Visitors to Fine Food New Zealand can sample the five-star dishes
created by these world-class international competitors at special
prices on every day of the show. On day one individual dishes will
be available for only $10 each, full three-course meals on day two,
and four course meals including a glass of wine will be exceptional
value at $35 each on day three. Tickets for these sessions are
available on a first come, first served basis by calling 0800 692
433.
"These competitions provide an excellent opportunity for punters
to see the pointy end of the industry in action - and to showcase
New Zealand food products to an international audience of buyers,"
says Miller.
Fine Food New Zealand will be held at the ASB Showgrounds from 17
- 19 June and entry is free by registering online by 10 June 2012.
