Imperial Teas was founded in 1994 by a dedicated team, whose strong drive made it possible to reach the top 10 Tea Exporters in the country in a short time. Ever since 1998 Imperial Teas has remained within the top 10 Tea Exporters of Sri Lanka ranked the 6th largest Tea Exporter for 2010. Imperial now exports to over 60 countries around the world from its modern factory complex comprising of 310,000 sq.ft. built on free hold land, located close to the road linking the capital city of Colombo with its International Airport.
The Imperial Group's state of the art factory is ISO 22000(2005), HACCP, GMP, BRC, NASAA and USDA Organic certified, in addition to conforming to Japanese 5S quality systems of manufacture. Imperial Teas have been able to achieve recognition through stringent quality control measures adopted on a continuous basis, conforming to internationally accepted and recognized quality systems of manufacture. This has enabled Imperial Teas to be successful in marketing of company owned brands in addition to contract packing Private Label Brands belonging to reputable distributors in overseas markets.
The Imperial Group's Annual Exports exceed 12 million Kgs valued at over USD 61 million. During the year 2010, Branded Exports amounted to over 90%. In recent times Imperial Tea's premium quality teas and blends have been recognized with many awards. These include several national and international awards. Imperial Teas flagship brand IMPRA enabled Imperial Tea Exports to be awarded The Best Sri Lankan Brand Exporter - Gold Award for the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008 2009 and 2010 by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.
